This study aims to investigate how young children make inferences about simple object hiding events. In this series of experiments, we aim to learn more about their inferential abilities.

We designed simple ‘cup games’ where we hide rewards like marbles under containers like upturned cups. The children need to pay attention to where the rewards might be hidden and then search for them. When ‘solving’ this task, the children need to think about where the reward could or must be based on how they saw the rewards being hidden, and their performance may tell us something about how their inference abilities might develop.

If you have any questions, even out of curiosity, please get in touch with Dr Kresimir Durdevic (kresimir.durdevic@stir.ac.uk)!

Who can take part?
Children between 2 and 3.5 years old. We will ask you about your child’s neurodiversity or additional supports, but your child can take part regardless. If you want to know more about the task before judging whether to attend, please get in touch (kresimir.durdevic@stir.ac.uk)!

What will happen if your child takes part?
We will meet you and your child at the reception of the main University entrance and walk with you to the Lifespan lab, room 3B109 where the testing will take part.

Are there any benefits in taking part?
Your child will receive a small toy and an attendance certificate as a reward, and you will be compensated with a £15 voucher at an online store*.

*please note that the vouchers might be valid for different online stores and we cannot ensure where they will be valid in advance
